Nymfo - FABRICLIVE x Ram Mix
After releasing his Characters LP this summer just gone on Klute's Commercial Suicide imprint, it's fair to say the Eindhoven residing Dutch d&b producer Nymfo has had a profile raising year. After reaching further onto the dancefloors and radio waves with his full length project, he'll be touching down once again in Room Two at the celebratory 20 Years of Ram Records rave a week on Friday. He's excited, we're excited and we're presuming the 1000 or so of you who've bagged an advance ticket to the 12 hour marathon (8pm - 8am) are also looking forward to it a little bit, so in anticipation we're happy to present to you this impeccably mixed selection of music from Nymfo. A real winter warmer...
Feed Your Stereo: Loxy w/ GQ & SP:MC @ Dimensions Festival
In two days time Exit Records boss man, dBridge, goes back to back in Room Three for 5 hours (!!!) alongside Cylon label owner, Loxy. It's a prospect that's had a lot of people salivating in anticipation considering the two producer's fervent relevance within the expansion of drum & bass. Whilst dBridge's path might be a little bit better documented, with the poignant FABRICLIVE 50: Autonomic standing out as one of those turning points for his sound, Loxy's one of those people who helped coin the sci-fi indebted, stepped back rumble sound back when. Simply, it's set to be one of those sets that lives up to the expectation and in an attempt to stoke the coals a bit more, dBridge just released Loxy's set from this year's Dimensions Festival which was hosted by SP:MC and captures that minimal, driven, rolling flavour of d&b Loxy is so good at weaving.
Catching up with Octane & DLR & their FABRICLIVE x Dispatch Mix
Riding high on the back of their artist album, Method in the Madness, on Leeds based drum & bass label, Dispatch, Octane & DLR are really reveling in their craft. Taking that plush position of producership seriously enough, they’re still as endearingly tongue in cheek as they’ve always been, using interview opportunities to shoot more jovial digs at friends and colleagues. That type of endearment is important with them, and we’re cementing our relationship with guys and their label crew even further than before by once again inviting them down to take over Room Three here on the 30th November.
Ahead of the date the duo made us a mixtape that captures their particular kind of quick seguing approach to drum & bass performance, so we caught up with Chris (Octane) and J (DLR) to let them better welcome us back into their world.
Audio: Ed Rush - FABRICLIVE x Critical Sound Mix
A “bit of a coup” is how Critical boss Kasra calmly prefixed a wetransfer link from drum & bass pioneer Ed Rush earlier this afternoon. It’s a decidedly under-weighted statement considering how much Rush (alongside his regular production partner, Optical) has helped steer the genre of drum & bass through its twists and turns over the years, but it’s incredibly on point considering the lack of studio mixes out there on the internet that bear the Ed Rush stamp (save his three month old ‘Summer 2012 Mix’ on his soundcloud, obviously). What Kas was right about though, is just how worth the wait the mix would be…
Having basically coined the techstep sound, Rush has released on labels across the scene, from No U Turn and V to Prototype, Metalheadz and Virus, and he still manages to remain an in demand DJ whose as intent on working over a dancefloor as he was back when his and Optical’s game changing Wormhole album was released in 1998. He’s a hero of a lot of drum & bass producers and it's probably because he’s got the proven heritage but continues to push the proverbial envelope as much as possible.
Anyway, he’s appearing in Room Two this Friday night for the launch party of Enei’s Machines LP and he just laced us with a 30 minute mix that really lays out just why people hold him in the regard they do. Techy, crunchy, delightfully flowing, we’re stoked to be able to present Ed Rush’s FABRICLIVE x Critical Sound Mix.
